Apple released macOS 27.2 (build 26B123) on Monday, October 26, 2026, the first feature update to macOS 27 Golden Gate and now the latest version of macOS. There was no macOS 27.1. Intel Macs, which can't run macOS 27, got macOS Tahoe 26.7.2 the same day, and Sequoia 15.8.2 landed for older Macs. All three are in System Settings → General → Software Update.
Where Did macOS 27.1 Go?
Nowhere, because it never existed on the Mac. The first post-launch developer beta, seeded on September 16, was already numbered 27.2, and Apple kept that number through four betas and an October 19 release candidate (build 26B118). The most consistent explanation is that iOS 27.1 shipped only on the iPhone Duo, and Apple kept the numbers aligned across platforms rather than have macOS run one behind. Our rumors page had pegged “27.1” for late October; the timing was right, the number was not.
Siri AI Grows Up
The headline change is to Siri AI, the conversational assistant that defined macOS 27 Golden Gate. It now works in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish as well as English, and it remembers earlier conversations, so you can ask about the restaurant it suggested last week without starting over. Personal context widens too: Siri can use photo attachments in Messages, Calendar attendees and voicemails, and it pulls better results from Safari history and Reading List. A new Excluded Apps setting gives you one place to decide which apps Siri, Spotlight and suggestions may read. If you haven't turned Siri AI on yet, our Apple Intelligence guide walks through it.
Everything Else That's New
- Suggestions return to Messages: tappable shortcuts that turn “dinner Thursday at 7” into a Calendar event or Reminder. Apple removed the feature during the macOS 27 betas and has now restored it.
- Write with Siri in Mail, from the formatting bar while composing.
- Shared Albums get editable captions and comments, duplicate avoidance and expiry reminders. SynthID detection in Photos and Image Playground flags AI-generated or AI-edited images.
- Redesigned brightness and volume sliders, a monochrome Apple Music icon to match Apple's rebranding, and separate sections for new and unfinished episodes in Podcasts.
- FaceTime can add a third-party sign-language interpreter or live captioner to a call.
- Rosetta 2 survives the upgrade: Apple's enterprise notes confirm that moving to macOS 27 no longer removes an existing Rosetta installation.
- Touch groundwork: gesture-recognition code appears in several built-in apps. It isn't exposed to users on existing Macs, but it is what the new touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro announced two days later depends on.
A Record Security Batch
macOS 27.2 is also the largest security update Apple has ever shipped for the Mac. The advisory covers the kernel, WebKit, ImageIO, the Security framework and dozens of other components; counting Safari 27.2, third-party trackers put the total at 263 CVEs. None is reported as actively exploited, but the volume alone is a reason not to sit on this one. The applicable fixes went to Intel Macs in macOS Tahoe 26.7.2 (build 25G332) and to older Macs in Sequoia 15.8.2 (build 24H232), both released the same day.
Should You Install macOS 27.2?
Yes. This is the release that makes Golden Gate feel finished: six weeks of fixes since 27.0.1, a more capable Siri, and no widely reported regressions in the first two weeks. If you deliberately stayed on Tahoe to wait for the first big macOS 27 update, this is it. Back up with Time Machine first, then install from System Settings → General → Software Update. The full update guide covers the rest.
Next up: macOS 27.3, whose first beta arrived on November 3 with Safari vertical tabs and Markdown previews in Quick Look.
