macOS 27.2 (Golden Gate)
The Latest macOS Version — More Siri AI Languages, Conversation Memory and a Record Security Batch
macOS 27.2 Is the Latest macOS Version
Apple released macOS 27.2 (build 26B123) on Monday, October 26, 2026. It is the first feature update to macOS 27 Golden Gate and the current latest version of macOS for every Apple Silicon Mac. There was no macOS 27.1: Apple went straight from 27.0.1 to 27.2 after a six-week beta cycle that began on September 16.
Intel Macs can't install it. They received macOS Tahoe 26.7.2 the same day, and Macs still on Sequoia got 15.8.2. All three updates appear in System Settings → General → Software Update.
What's New in macOS 27.2
- Siri AI in five more languages — French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish join English. Availability still varies by region, and some features remain English-only.
- Siri remembers earlier conversations — you can refer back to something Siri recommended last week. Siri also draws on more personal context: photo attachments in Messages, Calendar attendees and voicemails, plus better results from Safari history and Reading List.
- Excluded Apps — a single setting in System Settings controls which apps Siri, Spotlight and suggestions are allowed to read.
- Write with Siri in Mail — available from the formatting bar when composing a message.
- Suggestions in Messages — tappable shortcuts that turn details in a conversation into Calendar events and Reminders. Apple pulled this from the macOS 27 betas and has now brought it back.
- Photos and Shared Albums — edit captions and comments, avoid duplicate photos, get reminders before a shared album expires, and SynthID detection flags images generated or edited with AI tools in Photos and Image Playground.
- Redesigned brightness and volume sliders, a new black-and-white Apple Music icon, separate “new episodes” and “unfinished” sections in Podcasts, and third-party sign-language interpreters or live captioners in FaceTime.
- Rosetta fix — upgrading to macOS 27 no longer silently removes an existing Rosetta 2 installation, according to Apple's enterprise release notes.
- Touch groundwork — 27.2 includes gesture-recognition code in several built-in apps. It's not a user-facing feature, but it's what the new touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro relies on.
Security Content
macOS 27.2 is also a very large security update. Apple's advisory for the release runs to well over a hundred CVEs across the kernel, WebKit, ImageIO, Security and other components, and third-party tallies that include Safari 27.2 put the total at 263 fixes, a record for a single macOS update. Apple has not flagged any of them as actively exploited, but the sheer size of the batch makes this one worth installing promptly. The same fixes, where they apply, shipped to Intel Macs in Tahoe 26.7.2 and to Sequoia 15.8.2.
The Road to 27.2
- Developer beta 1 — September 16, 2026 (two days after macOS 27.0 shipped)
- Developer beta 2 — September 21
- Developer beta 3 — October 5
- Developer beta 4 — October 13 (added the new Siri AI languages)
- Release candidate — October 19 (build 26B118)
- Final release — October 26, 2026 (build 26B123)
Apple is already testing macOS 27.3, whose first developer beta arrived on November 3 with Safari vertical tabs and Markdown previews in Quick Look. Expect it to ship in December.
Which Macs Can Install macOS 27.2?
Any Mac that runs macOS 27 Golden Gate: every Apple Silicon Mac from the M1 (2020) onward, the MacBook Neo, and the new M6 MacBook Pro and M6 iMac, which ship with it preinstalled. Intel Macs are not supported; the 2019 Mac Pro and every Intel laptop stay on Tahoe 26.7.2.
How to Update to macOS 27.2
- Back up with Time Machine. Point updates rarely go wrong, but the backup is also your route back if you ever want to downgrade.
- Open System Settings → General → Software Update.
- Click Update Now next to macOS 27.2. If you're still on Tahoe, it appears under Upgrade Now as “macOS Golden Gate 27.2” instead.
- Keep the Mac plugged in. The download is several gigabytes and the install takes 20–40 minutes with one or two restarts.
After the update, Spotlight and Siri re-index for a while, so a warm Mac or a slower first hour is normal. Our full update guide covers the App Store and Terminal routes too.
Should You Install It?
Yes. For most people, macOS 27.2 is the release that makes Golden Gate feel finished: the new Siri works in more languages and remembers context, the Messages suggestions are back, and six weeks of bug fixes since 27.0 are rolled in. Reports of 27.2-specific regressions have been scarce so far. If you held off upgrading from Tahoe because you were waiting for the first big update, this is it.
