The Latest Version for Intel Macs — Security Fixes Released Alongside macOS 27.2
What's in macOS Tahoe 26.7.2
Apple released macOS Tahoe 26.7.2 (build 25G332) on October 26, 2026, the same day as macOS 27.2. It is a security-only update with no new features, and it is now the latest macOS version for Intel Macs, which cannot run macOS 27. Apple Silicon owners who are deliberately staying on Tahoe should install it too.
Apple's advisory lists dozens of fixes. The ones Apple describes in most detail are an out-of-bounds write in the Accelerate framework (CVE-2026-86971), APFS and Security framework bugs, an App Store flaw that could let web content escape its sandbox, and an authorization issue in Apple Intelligence that could expose user data. None is flagged as actively exploited. Where they apply, the same patches are in macOS 27.2 and in Sequoia 15.8.2 (build 24H232), released the same day for Macs still on Sequoia.
Tahoe Updates Since 26.7
- macOS Tahoe 26.7 (25G229, September 14, 2026) — over a hundred security fixes, released alongside macOS 27.
- macOS Tahoe 26.7.1 (25G241, September 28, 2026) — a single CoreGraphics fix, CVE-2026-86950, that Apple says may have been used in a highly targeted attack.
- macOS Tahoe 26.7.2 (25G332, October 26, 2026) — this release. It went through two release-candidate builds (25G320 on October 6, then a second RC) before shipping.
Installing 26.7.2 includes everything in the earlier updates. Every build and date is in the macOS update history.
Tahoe 26.7.2 or macOS 27.2?
In System Settings → General → Software Update, an Apple Silicon Mac on Tahoe sees both: Upgrade Now installs macOS 27.2, and the smaller Tahoe 26.7.2 entry keeps you on Tahoe.
- Intel Mac: install 26.7.2. Tahoe is the last macOS your Mac can run, and Apple should keep shipping security updates like this one until roughly autumn 2028 (see how long macOS gets security updates).
- Apple Silicon, waiting on an app or driver: install 26.7.2 now; macOS 27.2 will still be there when you're ready.
- Apple Silicon, no blockers: go to macOS 27.2. It has the same security fixes plus the features, and 27.2 is the update that settled most of Golden Gate's launch bugs.
