What's in macOS Tahoe 26.6
macOS Tahoe 26.6 is the current, latest stable version of macOS as of August 2026. It's a maintenance release — no headline features, but a large security payload and some meaningful housekeeping ahead of macOS 27 Golden Gate this fall.
- More than 150 security vulnerabilities patched — one of the largest security batches in the Tahoe cycle.
- HealthKit bug fixes affecting apps that sync health data on the Mac.
- HDR screenshot fix — screenshots shared in Messages no longer display incorrectly.
- Intel app deprecation notices fixed — resolves an issue where deprecation warnings for Intel-only apps displayed incorrectly.
- Background indexing prep for macOS 27 — the update is reported to begin the Spotlight indexing process that the new Siri AI in macOS 27 Golden Gate will rely on. Indexing can take several days and may cause brief periods of elevated background activity after installing.
Because of the unusually large number of security fixes, this is an update worth installing promptly even though it adds no new features.

- The release build (25G72) differs from the July 20 release candidate (25G70), meaning Apple made at least one late change before shipping.

Note: macOS Tahoe 26 is the final macOS release to support Intel Macs. macOS 27 Golden Gate, arriving in September, requires Apple Silicon.
How to Update to macOS Tahoe 26.6
- Back up your Mac with Time Machine or a clone before installing.
- Open System Settings → General → Software Update.
- Click Update Now when macOS Tahoe 26.6 appears.
- Keep your Mac plugged in and allow it to restart.

What's Next
macOS 26.6 looks like Tahoe's send-off as the current major version. Apple may still ship a 26.6.x or 26.7 patch, but no further feature updates are planned for Tahoe.
Attention now shifts to macOS 27 Golden Gate, announced at WWDC 2026. It's in public beta now with a full release expected in September — and it requires Apple Silicon, so Intel Macs stay on Tahoe with security updates for roughly two more years.
