What's New in macOS Tahoe 26.4
macOS Tahoe 26.4 is the largest mid-cycle update of the Tahoe lifecycle so far, pairing user-facing improvements with more than 70 security fixes. It was released alongside macOS Sequoia 15.7.5 and macOS Sonoma 14.8.5 for users on older OS versions.
Battery: Charge Limit
- New Charge Limit control in System Settings lets MacBook users cap battery charging anywhere between 80% and 100%
- Replaces the previous binary 80% cap with a fine-grained slider
- Useful for desk-bound MacBooks that rarely run on battery
Safari: Compact Tab Bar Returns
- The compact tab layout removed in Tahoe 26.0 is back as an option
- Frees additional vertical space for browsing
- Toggle in Safari → Settings → Tabs
Emoji
- 8 new emoji including ballet dancers, distorted face, and fight cloud
- Bundled with the Unicode 17.0 update
Other Changes
- Freeform: advanced image creation and editing tools, Apple Creator Studio premium content library
- Reminders: mark items as urgent with a keyboard shortcut, filter for urgent items in Smart Lists
- Family Sharing: Purchase Sharing now lets group members use their own payment methods

How to Update
- Back up your Mac
- Open System Settings → General → Software Update
- Click Update Now when macOS Tahoe 26.4 appears
- Allow your Mac to restart and complete installation
